PROF. DR. EVRİM ERDEMOĞLU

Cervical Cancer

Preventable, detectable, and — in expert hands — treatable at every stage.

Cervical cancer is caused by persistent HPV infection and develops slowly through precancerous stages, which is why screening works. When invasive cancer is found, treatment depends precisely on stage: from fertility-preserving surgery in early disease to radical hysterectomy with lymph node assessment, and chemoradiation in advanced stages.

Prof. Erdemoğlu’s cervical cancer expertise was shaped at Charité University Berlin under Prof. Achim Schneider, one of Europe’s pioneers of radical and fertility-sparing cervical cancer surgery. Together they co-authored publications including a Lancet article on HPV-based prevention of invasive cervical cancer and studies on radical trachelectomy — the operation that removes the cervix but preserves the uterus, allowing selected young women to carry a pregnancy after cancer treatment.

When to seek consultation:

A biopsy showing cervical cancer; high-grade smear abnormalities; early cervical cancer in a woman who wishes to have children; recurrence after surgery or radiotherapy.
