PROF. DR. EVRİM ERDEMOĞLU

Vulvar & Vaginal Cancer

Rare cancers demand experienced centers.

Cancers of the vulva and vagina are rare, and this rarity is exactly why they should be treated by surgeons who see them regularly. Modern vulvar cancer surgery balances radical tumor removal against preservation of anatomy and function, and uses sentinel lymph node biopsy to spare most women full groin dissection. Reconstructive techniques, when needed, are planned as part of the primary operation.

Prof. Erdemoğlu treats vulvar and vaginal cancers within a multidisciplinary team and teaches these operations at university level as part of Turkey’s first gynecologic oncology fellowship program. His ongoing work includes robotic reconstructive approaches (VRAM flap pelvic and vaginal reconstruction) presented to international congresses.

When to seek consultation:

A persistent vulvar lump, ulcer or itching; a biopsy showing VIN, vulvar or vaginal cancer; recurrent disease after prior treatment.
